Lexipol FIRE provides customizable, state-specific Fire Policy Content and integrated policy training
What services does Lexipol Offer?
Lexipol is America’s leading provider of state-specific policy management resources for public safety organizations. Lexipol offers a customizable, reliable and regularly updated online policy manual service, daily training bulletins on your approved policies, and implementation and management services to allow us to manage the administrative side of your policy manual.
What types of public safety organizations utilize Lexipol services?
Lexipol provides services to police (airport, municipal, campus, port, tribal), sheriff’s departments, jail and custody facilities, detention centers, District Attorney offices, probation offices, state and federal agencies, fire departments and many others.
Does Lexipol offer client references?
Yes. Lexipol can provide references upon request. Please contact the Client Services Department at (844) 312-9500.
What do I do if I am having trouble seeing Today's Tips?
No. Each state has a customized policy manual that is created by key members of state organizations, risk management associations and local public safety experts. Lexipol’s legal, law enforcement, custody and fire staff, along with the Subject Matter Experts, develop a customized policy manual that fits the specific needs and laws of the state. The state-specific policy content has a high degree of consistency and uniformity for critical policies throughout each state. Therefore, many key points within a policy manual should, and will be, identical to those used by other local subscribing organizations as prescribed by court decisions and legislation. The policy manual is fully editable so your organization can customize the manual to meet your agency’s individual needs.
What policies are included in the manual?
The Lexipol policy manual system is comprehensive and covers a broad range of risk management and public safety topics. The core policies are based on state and federal law, regulations and public safety best practices.
Can we add policies of our own?
Yes. The Lexipol system has editing capabilities that allow you to fully customize the policy manual and the Daily Training Bulletins. The editing policy allows you to update, change, delete, add videos to and otherwise customize content.
Who should an employee contact if they lose their user name or password?
Lexipol does not maintain a database of user names or passwords. Personnel should contact your organization administrator, who can reset the password.
How much does the policy manual cost?
Lexipol offers three types of policy manuals; the cost is based on the type of public safety organization. The cost of the Law Enforcement Policy Manual is based on the number of sworn officers. The cost is a fraction of the budget needed to update and maintain a policy manual. Often, public safety organizations do not have the resources to translate statutes, case law and emerging trends into usable, defensible policy. Lexipol does this work for you.
How is the policy manual kept up-to-date?
Lexipol legal experts and public safety representatives in each state constantly monitor case decisions, legislation and other influences that impact policies, and then update the content accordingly. We also identify issues and trends from the experience of hundreds of client organizations. We provide new and updated content for your review, along with comprehensive release notes detailing the reason for the recommended changes. When appropriate, Lexipol will also send alerts and advisories to your organization’s CEO and policy managers on urgent issues. Your organization has complete control over what content is included in the manual.
Do we have to accept all the policies Lexipol recommends?
No. Your organization does not have to accept all of the Lexipol recommended policies. However, there is tremendous value to the collective research and experience of the Lexipol legal and content development staff and the input from hundreds of subscribing organizations. There are a number of policies that are required by state and federal law that we advise you to include. The Lexipol policy manual Guide Sheets will help your organization in the decision-making process.
How long does it take to complete the policy manual?
The majority of the Lexipol policy manual has been completed, but it is important that your organization review each policy carefully before adopting it. Lexipol suggests assigning a lead person to facilitate the process. That person should allocate 50-60 hours over a three to four month period for review and editing. While input from managers and administrators may be helpful on certain policies, Lexipol has found that assigning committees to work on the manual inevitably delays the process.
Is the Lexipol system difficult to use?
The Lexipol system was designed to be user-friendly. In fact, our clients compliment us on how easy it is to use (or operate). Anyone with basic word processing and computer skills should have no difficulty using the Lexipol system.
Can an organization receive the manual in electronic form?
Yes. Your organization may download the manual in PDF format to distribute to personnel or to place on your organization’s intranet. Lexipol will also include one bound copy of the first adopted manual and will customize it with your organization’s logo.
Daily Training Bulletins
How much work is involved to utilize the Daily Training Bulletins (DTBs)?
Your organization’s administrator will need to enter the names of your personnel into the system using a unique user name and password. Lexipol will release the DTBs to the administrator in advance of their release to your personnel. The administrator should review the DTBs and validate the content to be sure it is consistent with your organization’s policy manual. The tools in the Lexipol system allow easy validation.
Can I edit or write my own DTBs?
Yes. The editing tools allow you to change, update, add videos and pictures, and let you write your own DTBs.
Do all of my personnel have to take every DTB?
Lexipol’s Daily Training Bulletins are based on Gordon Graham’s belief that high-risk, low-frequency events pose the greatest risk to public safety organizations and their personnel. Every day should be a training day. Lexipol recommends that all personnel take every DTB, as it links to the policy manual, encourages continuous training and serves as a record of training for potential ligation. However, it is up to your organization’s leaders to determine how to administer the DTBs.
Are hard copies of the DTBs available?
Yes. Your organization’s administrator can access the monthly list of DTBs in PDF format.
What happens if our personnel answer the DTBs test question incorrectly?
They will be prompted to retake the test. Only correct answers are recorded.
Who should employees contact if they lose their user name or password?
Lexipol does not maintain a database of user names or passwords. Personnel should contact your organization’s administrator, who can reset the password.
Who should we contact if we have any other questions regarding the Daily Training Bulletin program?
For a price quote, please contact (844) 312-9500. For customer service and technical support, please contact (949) 309-3894. For all other DTB questions, please contact (949) 340-2748.

Chief Bob Watson Borger (TX) Fire Department
“Lexipol serves three purposes: One, it protects citizens by giving us vetted guidelines to follow. Two, it protects firefighters because in court, they can show that they follow the guidelines. And three, as long as we follow the policies, it protects the city’s assets.”

“Anyone who’s done anything with training knows [Lexipol co-founder] Gordon Graham and [Lexipol consultant] Billy Goldfeder. When my firefighters ask, ‘Who wrote this?’ I can say it’s not some lawyer who’s just trying to make buck and doesn’t care about you. Gordon and Billy are vested in the fire service, in risk management. As soon as the members know this is coming from them, they buy in.”
Division Chief David LaPere Tulare (CA) Fire Department
“Amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics. Lexipol is the logistical support for policy development. Without that platform, it’s like trying to travel 1,000 miles with no vehicle and no road. Lexipol gives you the car; they build the road.”

"We were faced with an incomplete, outdated set of policies that has resulted in preventable liability and labor-relations issues. The release of the Lexipol Fire Policy Manual has provided us with a solid foundation upon which we can build a policy manual that is based on sound legal interpretations and best practices. The Lexipol product is easily customizable, which allows us to include policies that address our local needs. The subscription also includes training modules in our policies, which closes the gap on the most overlooked aspect of policy management."
