Agencies using Lexipol’s Fire Daily Training Bulletin (DTB) program had access to 120 unique firefighter training bulletins last year, covering topics ranging from swiftwater rescue to code enforcement.
A new report from Lexipol provides details into the topics covered in the training program, which is available to all Lexipol Fire client agencies. DTBs use a proven system of realistic and verifiable training to expose firefighters to their department’s policies and help them apply policy to real-world situations.
Personnel Issues topped the list of topics in 2016, accounting for 23% of the total DTBs. This category covers subtopics such as Discriminatory Harassment, Fire Officer Development, Line-of-Duty Deaths, and Physical Fitness.
Not surprisingly, the second highest category was General Operations, covering topics ranging from Traffic Collisions to Rapid Intervention. Firefighter Safety was third at 13% of total DTBs.
The following chart shows the breakdown of main topics:
“The DTBs correspond with the topics covered in the Lexipol Fire Policy Manual,” says Don Weaver, Training Director for Lexipol. “In 2016 our goal was to cover each chapter from the policy manual, and then to focus additional training in areas where we believe the most risk exists to firefighters and departments, such as Social Media and Personal Protective Equipment.”
Lexipol’s Training team also monitors court cases, emerging trends and current events, and builds DTBs to address them. Some of these topics in 2016 included:
• Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISD)
• Social Media
• Response to Violent Incidents
