Gordon Graham here with Today’s Tip from Lexipol. Today’s Tip is for public safety and it deals with making sure you and your family are prepared for a disaster.

Making sure that your family is ready is an important part of making sure that you are ready when duty calls.

Everyone in public safety is affected when a disaster occurs in your community. Whether it’s a fire, flood, tornado, hurricane, or winter storm no one is immune from the possibility of a disaster.

If disaster strikes you may be called into work. As you’re running out the door is not the time to think about whether your loved ones will be OK while you are gone. Making sure that your family is ready is an important part of making sure that you are ready when duty calls.

If you are worried about your loved ones at home you won’t be able to completely focus on the task at hand. This distraction could be dangerous.

Properly equip your home with food, water, medicine, and other essentials. Have a plan for where your family will go if they need to evacuate. Decide in advance how you will communicate if cell phones and email are down.
