2020 Corrections Policy Training Topics Topped by “Use of Force”

Inmate management is one of the biggest and most complex responsibilities of correctional officers. It understandably requires significant and consistent training to ensure full understanding of and compliance with policies and procedures. In 2020, Lexipol’s Daily Training Bulletin (DTB) program covered this topic with short, scenario-based training modules designed to help correctional staff prepare for a wide variety of inmate management situations.

Agencies using the DTB program had access to 240 unique corrections training bulletins last year. The summary report organizes the training topics into nine categories and 84 subtopics. The top categories were Inmate Management; Inmate Due Process; and Role, Authority, Organization and Administration. The leading subtopics were:

DTBs use a proven system of solid, realistic, ongoing and verifiable training to expose correctional staff to their agency’s policies and improve real-world decision making.
