The Fifth Step in Creating a Firefighter Workout Program: Developing Flexibility and Mobility

Recently, a national TV anchor got into some hot water after she mocked the news that young Prince George will be taking ballet classes as part of his school lineup. You might not have paid any attention to this story, but the truth is firefighters could all stand to be a bit more like Prince George.

Now, we’re not asking you to imagine a bunch of firefighters dancing around in tutus. But dancers possess a key ability that all firefighter should strive for: flexibility. It’s one of the most overlooked components of an exercise program, and yet it’s fundamental to protecting against injury; preventing slips, trips and falls; and developing the ability to bounce back more quickly from strenuous physical exercise.
