Bad Driving Behavior

Gordon Graham here with Today’s Tip from Lexipol. Today’s Tip is for law enforcement, fire and corrections.

How we drive can directly affect how the community views our agency.

And Today’s Tip deals with how you drive your department vehicle.

Think about the last time you were driving down the road behind a big semi. Did you see a sign asking, “How am I driving?” Did you notice the toll-free number to call to report bad driving?

Why would the company care how their employees are driving? I don’t think they are just concerned about safety, fuel economy or liability. I think it has something to do with upholding the good image of the brand. Could you imagine getting run off the road by a truck bearing the logo of your favorite potato chips? I’m never buying that stuff again!

Now think about how you drive your fire truck, police car, or transport van. Now maybe it’s not fair, but how we drive can directly affect how the community views our agency.

Make sure that when you are behind the wheel, you don’t cause people to start looking for the sticker with the toll-free number on it.

And that is Today’s Tip from Lexipol.

Gordon Graham, signing off.
