Today’s Tip is for everyone in public safety. How many times have you seen someone committing traffic violations in a marked vehicle? Without the lights or siren activated? You know, speeding, not using turn signals, not wearing seatbelts. Texting while driving. How about emergency vehicles parked in a disabled parking space, a fire lane, or on the sidewalk near the front entrance of a business?
The public is always watching. They expect to see you driving safely and following the law.
These are all things that citizens in your community have probably witnessed, reported, or discussed with others. Some citizens probably even received a citation for one of the same offenses they’ve witnessed public safety personnel committing.
Today, nearly everyone has a video camera in smartphone. What will happen when a video is posted online of someone at your agency setting bad example?
The public is always watching. They expect to see you driving safely and following the law.
Driving is part of our daily routine. Take it seriously. Be responsible. Drive with due care. It’s not complicated. Your department has a policy on vehicle operations. Follow it. Your state has traffic laws. Follow them.
