Today’s Tip is for any law enforcement professional who stores firearms at home. Let’s face it. Firearms are part of law enforcement. You probably bring your duty weapon home. Perhaps you simply keep a firearm for home defense.

Firearms safety in your home is your responsibility. Take it seriously.

Do you always securely store your firearms? I hope so. Now, ask yourself this question. Are these measures enough?

We’ve all heard the tragic stories. An unsupervised toddler or curious teenager finds a loaded gun in the house. Next thing you know, someone is killed or seriously injured. Lives are shattered.

Prevention is key. Take the time now to makes sure that all firearms are appropriately stored in your home. Re-familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of firearms safety. Educate everyone in your household.

Familiarize yourself with your agency’s firearms policy. And your state’s laws.

Research storage options. There are a multitude of safes, cases, and other locking devices on the market. Find the one that works best for your home and family situation.

Firearms safety in your home is your responsibility. Take it seriously.
