Today, I’d like to talk to my friends in law enforcement about deconfliction. This is a process we use to see if the people or the places we are investigating are being investigated by officers. We must make sure we’re not stepping on each other’s toes. This is important for undercover work, surveillance, serving warrants, and other operations.

There are hundreds of agencies that could be operating in a given area. That’s a lot of potential conflicts and a lot of risk.

Deconfliction can help prevent confusion and even tragedy. I saw a report where more than 400 conflicts were identified in a 6-month period. That’s over 400 times that death, injury, or embarrassment was avoided.
