Gordon Graham Honored with Howard W. Rayon Distinguished Service Award

Lexipol co-founder Gordon Graham was recently honored with the Fire Services Training Institute 2018 Howard W. Rayon Distinguished Service Award. The award, in its tenth year, recognizes his service, commitment and dedication in the highest honor of the American fire service and the public safety community. The Fire Services Training Institute (FSTI) provides training to today’s volunteer public safety community including non-profit, industrial and tribal fire agencies.

He is internationally recognized as a leading professional in both public and private sector organizational risk management. As a noted author and lecturer, he travels extensively presenting over 20 different programs to public safety personnel and regularly speaks at industry events hosted by the Public Risk Management Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and American Jail Association, as well as regional, state and local conferences. Gordon is the sponsor and partner of FirefighterCloseCalls.com, which publishes The Secret List newsletter; he guided the development of IAFC’s FirefighterNearMiss.com. He also publishes a weekly Today’s Tip video series on critical issues in public safety.

Graham has previously been awarded with the James Oberstar Sentinel for Safety Award from the National Air Traffic Controllers Association, Lifetime Dedication Award from the International Public Safety Leadership and Ethics Institute, and Lifetime Achievement Award from the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.

The first FSTI Distinguished Service Award was presented during the 2009 California State Firefighters’ Association 87th Annual Conference to Chief Howard W. Rayon, naming the award in honor of his contributions, leadership, and lifetime achievements and dedication to the fire service. This year’s award presentation was held during a private ceremony in Sacramento, California on September 7.
