In some fire stations across the country, “yoga” is a four-letter word. A lot of us have a preconceived notion that yoga isn’t really “serious” exercise. Firefighters and EMT/paramedics need brute strength and cardiovascular ability, not breath and mind control, right?

In fact, most yoga classes provide an intense workout, and yoga poses can help improve firefighter flexibility and mobility—factors that are essential not only to improving endurance, but to resisting injury as you respond to fire and EMS calls.
